Introduction

The Boston Terrier has a bloody history as they were initially bred to create a much more compact pit fighting dogs. But through the years and constant development, they have become non-aggressive and have been one of the more popular dogs to have as a companion for individuals or big families.

History

The Bull and Terrier types of dogs became so popular during the early years of America that they developed a downsized version of fighting dogs to have as suitable companions. These are the Boston Terrier dogs, which may have descended from American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, Bull Terrier, French Bulldog and English Bulldog crosses. Some believe that these crosses are not precise and the breed is directly linked to the English Bulldog and white English Terrier crosses. Whichever varying versions of the Boston Terrier you believe, one thing is sure, they are dogs that are impressively muscular, and adorable, for their small compact frames.

The development of these tiny but very muscular canines as a breed started in the 1800s. They have the distinction of being one of the first breeds created in the United States. Additionally, Boston Terriers are the first American breed recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Personality

Among the admirable traits of these dogs are their lively outlook in life, highly intelligent and being alert at all times. They are kind and even-tempered in disposition, but the Boston Bull, as some call them, will show their strength and determination if needed. Children and other dogs are safe around this breed as they have the temperament to get along with almost everyone.

The Boston Terrier dog breed is prone to a number of ailments from several eye problems, to hearing difficulties as well as heart and skin diseases.
