History

The Brussels Griffon was named after the city of its origin. Originally used as a ratter on farms, it was developed to its current form in the nineteenth century through crosses with Affenpinschers, Pugs, and English Toy Spaniels. The addition of the English Toy Spaniel into the Griffon’s heritage changed its facial characteristics, making it no longer suitable as a ratter. It has been a companion dog ever since.

Personality

This is an intelligent, alert, jaunty dog, which is full of personality. It is self-important and confident and may be challenging to train. Some Belgian Griffon dogs do not get along well with children or strangers and should be trained properly to be docile and tolerant home pets.

Brachycephalic syndrome, cleft palate, reproductive problems are some of the more common sickness known to this breed. Sensitivity to heat and their difficulty to give birth issues to be concerned with.

Exercise

They may be little and bred for indoor living, but these little balls of energy can show extreme energy even in confined spaces. But however active they can get inside the house, it is important to have them out for daily walks every day.
