Introduction

The Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie is one of three varieties of dogs that is included in the Anglos-Francaises scent hound family. They are the smallest in this group and are available in three different variants as well:

History

The Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie dog breed started being developed and bred as a small scent hound version of the Anglos-Francaises hound family during the 16th century. They got their name from the French phrase The Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie that translates to English and French hounds for small hunting. They are called petite not because they are physically smaller compared to the Grand and de Moyenne varieties of Anglos-Francais dogs. They are called petite because these scent hounds were specifically bred to hunt small game types of animals!

Personality

It is said that The Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie is the most energetic hunting dog that belongs to the French and English hound group. These scent hounds are naturally packed hunters, displaying admiral team player traits and the passion to work with other dogs. They are known to be calm and mild-mannered when around children. These are stubborn dogs but will show sweet disposition most of the time.

Bred For

These are Anglo-Francais dogs that were bred for small game hunting. They were developed to be skilled scent hounds.

Environment

These are not dogs that are suited in residential building complexes such as apartments and condos. They have the bark or often called “bay” which is a trademark of all hounds. These dogs will howl and bay especially at night time. Rural areas with ample ground for them to move is the ideal living condition for these dogs.

Training

The Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie are natural scent trackers which makes training a bit difficult than normal.

Health

Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie dogs are considered among the rarest in dogs known today. This scarcity made these dogs one of the healthiest, showing no signs of medical issues that plague other scent hounds.

Exercise

Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie dogs are natural hunting dogs. They require plenty of activity and exercise sessions to keep them well balanced. These dogs thrive when taken out on hunting trips. The minimal activity requirement for these dogs will be taking them on long walks every day.
