Introduction

Australian Labradoodles are dogs not considered as a breed, but a hybrid or a mix. Regardless of their recognition status as a breed of its own, fanciers of the Labradoodles created three different distinctions of the hybrid. They are the:

a. the Australian Labradoodle bred in Australia and recognized by the Labradoodle Association of Australia and the International Australian Labradoodle Association
b. the American Labradoodle is a hybrid dog, bred by crossing the Poodle with the Labrador Retriever
c. multi-generation Labradoodles Australian Labradoodles, these are hybrids and are different than the ones being bred by the Australian clubs

History

During the 1980s, there was a huge demand for assistance dogs that do not shed hair. These ideal dogs are perfect for people who have allergies. Thus paved the way with the Labradoodle’s birth as a breed. The Australian Labradoodle started out as a simple cross between the Labrador retriever and Standard Poodle or Miniature Poodle and is still widely the case in North America. The Australian Labradoodle currently consists of 6 different breeds in its origin. The confirmed and approved parent breeds of the Australian Labradoodle are the Poodle (Standard, Miniature, Toy, Labrador retriever, Irish Water Spaniel, Curly Coat Retriever, American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel.

Personality

This dog breed is quite an active bunch and most of them can be comical with their sweet-tempered antics. The Australian Labradoodle is great with children, east to train and gets along with other dogs. Some more positive traits that have shown include being extremely clever, sociable and joyful, and quick to learn unusual or special tasks.

Service assistance dogs can help people with allergies as they do not shed.

Environment

The Australian Labradoodle will do okay in an apartment if it gets enough exercise.

Grooming

Most Australian Labradoodles shed little to no hair and are possibly non-allergenic.

Training

They are very easy to train.

Health

HD, PRA, VonWilabrands, elbow and patella disorders are the major health risks with the fairly new Australian Labradoodle.

Exercise

This breed needs a lot of exercises, which includes long daily walks.
