History
This particular Cuban Toy dog breed originates from the old world bichons of Europe. The Bichon Havanais is the direct descendant of Maltese and Bolognese bichons that were famously bred all across Europe. They were brought to Cuba by the Spanish Conquistadors during the 18th century. Havanese got their name after the city of Havana. The nobility of this Cuban capital, as well as the Spanish aristocrats, kept them companion pets. Years later, they were also preferred by the Cuban middle class and kept as family dogs.
Personality
The Bichon Havanais are small yet sturdy companion dogs. They may be small, but their intelligence is very high. These toy dogs are known to display impressive attentiveness. This makes the Bichon of Havana highly trainable. They are dogs that are very gentle yet will also be very playful. These Bichon type dogs are especially affectionate towards their owners. Towards everyone else, they are dogs that will be very friendly.
