History
The Biewer or Biewer Yorkshire Terrier is considered to be a young toy dog breed as it was just developed in Germany in the year 1984. It got its name in honor of the pioneer breeders named Gertrude and Werner Biewer. The Biewers owned a Yorkshire terrier that produced a litter with unique white markings. They loved those unique white markings and this led to a selective breeding program to produce more of this Yorkshire variety. Today, Biewer dogs are now a separate breed from their Yorkshire Terrier progenitors.

Personality
Biewers share the great traits that made Yorkshire Terriers one of the favored toy dog breeds today. They are great companions that will display affection and loving and sweet disposition. These terrier-type dogs are intelligent, clever, lively, loyal and very brave. They are kind dogs towards their family and especially towards children. They are known to be great watchdogs for their inherent curiosity and very alert nature.

Bred For
The Biewer are bred out of the Yorkshire Terrier and developed for their unique white markings.

Environment
The Biewer are great apartments to have and will be active indoors. These toy dogs can live even without a yard provided they get enough exercise.

Grooming
The Biewer are like their Yorkshire Terrier cousins when it comes to grooming requirements. These dogs demand special attention when it comes to grooming their long silky and glossy coat.

Training
The Biewer will respond very well to training as they are naturally clever and very smart dogs. A gentle training method should be used. It is recommended to have them trained for obedience at an early age.

Health
The Biewer Terrier is generally healthy. These dogs do have a sensitive digestive system and may be prone to health problems affecting the stomach. Diet should be supervised.

Exercise
Like most small Terrier breeds, The Biewer is a very active small dog. Walks every day should be done but playtime should be sufficient to meet their activity needs.
