History

The Bracco Italiano is a dog breed that has over four hundred years of history. These Italian bred dogs were first developed in the 14th Century. Italian huntsmen made them dual purposes hunters. A hunting dog breed that can retrieve and can also be used as a pointer. Originally, the Bracco Italiano dog breed has two varieties. One type comes from Piedmont, these are Bracco’s with white and orange coat colors. The other type comes from Lombardy, they are dogs with white and brown coat colors. Today, the two types are considered as one and the same.

Personality

The Bracco Italiano is an even-tempered and loving dog. These are dogs that are well-known to make an intelligent distinction between doing their job and when to have fun. They are dogs that show passionate working traits while out in the field. When at home, these Italian dogs are very docile and well mannered.

Bred For

Hunting small to medium game animals. These pointers are one of the best gun dogs around.

Environment

Rural or suburban homes with a large yard would make them happy.

No special attention to grooming is required.

Training

Obedience training is a must for these dogs but their eagerness to please nature makes them easy to train.
