History

The Briquet which is commonly called Briquette Griffon and also as Medium-sized Griffon originated in France and considered to be one of the country’s oldest Griffon-type dog breeds. They were specifically bred to be a down-sized version of the modern-day Grand Griffon dog breed. These dogs are believed to be among the descendants of the ancient Canis Segusius, a dog that is larger and taller than any of today’s existing French scent hound breeds. This dog breed nearly died out during World War II but was saved and restored through the initiative of French dog show judge Mr. Huber Dezamy.

Personality

The Briquet dog breed is known for its very strong work ethics and very impressive intelligence. These dogs will always be attentive, alert and energetic in any type of activity. They are even-tempered dogs that display friendliness, loyalty and love towards their family. They are non-aggressive towards strangers but are known to signal a warning to their owners. These are passionate hunting dogs, well behaved and playful family pets and excellent companions.

Bred For

Briquet dogs were bred to be a down-sized version of the Grand Griffon dog breed. They are bred to be excellent companions, hunters and also as watchdogs.

Environment

The Briquet dog breed will not be good to have as apartment pets. The ideal home setting for this French hunting dog is homes with large sized yards that are well fenced.

Grooming

Briquets are dogs that must be groomed regularly. Brushing and combing should be done every day or every other day.

Training

The Briquet is a dog that will be very easy to train as they are attentive by nature. They are the type of dogs that enjoys new lessons and tricks!

They are known to be free of health problems that affect or are seen in other dog breeds.
