Introduction

The Chart Polski is a large, muscular, and sturdy dog. It is less refined than the other sighthounds. It has a powerful jaw. The springy coat is of varying lengths and of any color. The eyelids and nose should complement the coat color.

History

The Chart Polski is believed to have been in existence since the thirteenth century and probably descends from the Asian sighthounds. It was used as a hunting dog for hare, fox, deer and wolf. The Chart Polski has been referenced in hunting-related literature, painting, and drawings since the thirteenth century. The Illustrations show that the breed remained essentially unchanged until the end of the nineteenth century when political and economic turmoil in Poland followed by the two World Wars almost led to the breed’s demise. Only a few purebred Chart Polskis remained in Poland by 1974, when efforts to revive the breed began.

Personality

The Chart Polski is a confident and courageous dog. It is wary of strangers and quite reserved.

Bred For

Hunting rabbits and hare and developed to be faster than these two small game animals known for their quickness.

Environment

Chart Polski is not suitable for apartment dog pets. They require a lot of space to move, run and roam.

Grooming

It is relatively easy to groom these dogs.

Training

Highly trainable for their naturally high levels of intelligence.

Health

At this point, they are not known to have many serious genetic disorders. Cancers have been reported, also some heart conditions such as cardiomyopathy

Exercise

Exercise sessions are needed as regular as they can have them. These dogs are quite active and require outdoor activities to have a stable and even-tempered.
