The Cierny Sery is a herding dog breed that is available in three types:

• The Short Series,
• Long Series, and
• Rough Series

The three types are distinguished by the length of their coat. However, all three types come with black coats.

The Cierny Sery is a devoted and loyal breed of dogs. In addition, they can be very gentle and tolerant. Therefore, they are perfect companion dogs and they manage great with kids.

History

The Cierny Sery is a herding dog breed that originates in the Slovak Republic or Slovakia. This is a young dog breed, with the official breeding development starting in 1981. Before, it was believed that the Cierny Sery was a descendant of the Old German Shepherd Dog breed. However, this is a common misconception. This Slovak dog breed was developed by crossing the Altdeutsche Hütehund and Belgian Sheepdogs with lines of the Standard Schnauzer thrown into the mix. Pioneer breeding credit goes to Mrs. Zdena Seryova.

Personality

The Cierny Sery is a dog breed that has a balanced physical appearance which inhibits their versatile working abilities. They are dogs that are strong and imposing, but elegant and dignified. The Cierny Sery dogs will display their loving disposition towards most people and children. These dogs are sensitive but will be capable and competent working dogs for various tasks.

Bred For

The Cierny Sery and all its variants were bred to specifically have a very natural look that is imposing and very elegant but will not limit the working capability of these dogs.

Environment

The Cierny Sery will be good apartment dogs if sufficiently exercised. However, they can be very inactive indoors which can hurt their health. An ideal living environment for this breed will be a house with a big yard where they can run freely.

Grooming

The Cierny Sery is quite demanding when it comes to grooming. In other words, these dogs should be thoroughly groomed every week. During the shedding period, when these dogs shed hair in massive amounts, thorough grooming should be done every single day.

Training

This is a Slovak dog breed that is known to be very sensitive. Therefore, they won’t do anything if you are harsh to them. In other words, positive, consistent but gentle training should be done in order to teach them something.

In addition, as for any dog breed, early age socialization and training will help them become healthy grown-up dogs.

Health

The Cierny Sery is generally a healthy breed.

Exercise

Cierny Sery loves difficult activities. Therefore, these dogs should be taken on long and brisk walks every single day. On the contrary, they will show destructive behavior. In conclusion, these dogs will be perfect for people who love hiking or running and bicycle riding.
