History
Dog historians believed that the Jindo dog breed was first bred in the thirteenth century when the Mongols invaded the lands within the Korean Peninsula. Indigenous dogs were crossed with the canine companions of the Mongol Horde. Others believed that when The Korean king eventually surrendered to the Mongolian army, it caused the major part of the Korean army to withdraw to the island of Jindo. These soldiers brought their dogs with them and resulted in a distinct breed that has been isolated within the Korean island. This has made the Jindo dog are one of the purest of purebreds in the world today. The Jindo has served as dual-purpose dogs for their owners, hunting both small and large game as well as serving as guard dogs for their owners, properties, and livestock. Before the breakout of the Second World War and the eventual split of North and South Korea, the once unified Korean government designated it as a national treasure.

Personality
A very strong prey drive with matching hard-working attitude is what the Jindo dogs are famous for. When around family these Korean national treasures are affectionate and very loyal. But when strangers are around, it is wary. Their fastidious trait makes them a bit cat-like in behavior. These Asian dogs are also very intelligent and very independent by nature. Proper training would control their urges on being a dominant and dog-aggressive breed.

Bred For
Korean Jindo dogs were originally bred for hunting game as small as rodents to as large as deer.

Environment
Jindos can be pleasant apartment dogs provided that they are sufficiently walked.

Grooming
Jindos are dogs that can groom themselves. This cat-like trait makes them very clean. The Jindo dog is known to shed heavily. Fortunately, this only happens twice a year.

Training
Jindo Dogs are very easy to housetrain.

Health
The Jindo is a relatively healthy dog. Hypothyroidism can be a problem but is not a common medical condition for this Korean dogs.

Exercise
Jindo dogs need plenty of time to work out. These dogs are so packed with energy that they need at least two exercise sessions every day. Taking the Jindo dogs on daily 30-minute brisk walks at day and at night will make them very happy.
