History

Modern Kraski Ovcar dogs are believed to be brought to Illyrian regions, now Slovenia, by the ancient tribes who migrated to this area. They are considered one of the rarest dog breeds and one of Slovenia’s rarest indigenous dogs. The Kraski Ovcars were first documented as a unique dog breed during the 17th century. For centuries they were known as the Illyrian Shepherd, only being recognized as the Kraski Ovčar in 1968.

Personality

The Kraski Ovčar is a dog breed that is known to be light-hearted and loving when around friends and family. When around strangers, these Slovenian native dogs will be wary. They have a high tendency to be very sharp mentally. They are also one of the most suspicious dog breed known today and will make friends at a slow pace.

The Kraski Ovčar dogs were developed to be dependable and self-sufficient guard dogs and exceptional sheepdogs.

Environment
