History
The Kunming Dog is one of the youngest dog breed known today. They originated back in the early ’50s in China. The sole purpose of this breed’s creation was to produce an Asian dog breed that is fit to join the Chinese military. The initial breed program started in China’s Yunnan Province. It was bred from various large dogs local to Yunnan which was then crossed with China’s existing military dog breeds. The result of these crosses was then crossed with German Shepherds and Chinese wolf dogs. Today, the Kumming Dog is considered as one of the most impressive working dogs and has been put to service in China’s military and police enforcement units.

Personality
The Kunming Dog is first and foremost a pure Military dog. These are Chinese dogs that display impressive focus and are known to have immense power. They were created to be highly intelligent dogs that are self-assured. They may display eagerness when in training, but often these dogs will become dominant. If properly trained and well socialized, Kunming dogs will make great family dogs that will get along with children, other dogs, and other animals as well.

Bred For
These dogs were specifically created to service the Chinese military and police departments. They are also impressive as guard dogs, search and rescue and family watchdogs.

Environment
The Kunming dogs should not be kept as apartment pets.

Grooming
Kunming Dogs are very easy to groom and maintain.

Training
Kunming dogs were specifically trained to be highly trainable dogs. These dogs are capable of being trained to a higher degree.

Health
The Kunming Dog is a relatively young breed. Presently, they are considered to be a healthy breed and show no genetic disorders.

Exercise
Kunming dogs are naturally working canines. They require very high activity requirements. These dogs should be taken on long walks every day.
