Adopt a Longhaired Ibizan Hound, Breed Of Dog Guide

Introduction

The Spanish breed of dog known as the Ibizan Hound comes in three distinguishable types. The Longhaired Ibizan Hound is the one that has a 1 to 3 inches lengthy coat covering their bodies. Some say that longhaired dogs of this breed are just variants of the Wirehaired Ibizan Hound.

History

The Longhaired Ibizan Hound is one around the leanest and most nimble of all the hounds. They are thought to be older canines, with strong resemblances to the older Pharaoh Canines of Older Egypt. But recent researches reveal that the present-day breed of dog recognized today is just re-creation of that older breed. But that doesn’t take away their elegance and gracefulness. The more accurate date and place of origin is between 700 and 900 B.C. on the Spanish island of Ibiza. Historical records demonstrate these canines were being used by Spanish island natives to hunt small game thus providing meat on their otherwise mostly fish diet.

Personality

They are canines that are known to be perfect family pets. These canines are energetic, faithful, passionate, flexible, effortless to train and pleasant to be around with among friends and families. But they will demonstrate cautious demeanor around people they don’t know. Longhaired Ibizan hounds have the tendency to mature at a slow pace.

Bred For

These are canines that were developed to be hunters that use their keen sight to capture prey. They are also used in the sport of lure coursing.

Environment

The Ibizan Hound may do well within an apartment type of living space. Just have these canines substantially exercised if this is the case. It is fairly energetic inside the house and will do better in homes that at have at the minimum a considerable back yard.

Grooming

These are canines that don’t require a good deal of grooming effort. Ibizan Hound dogs shed hair normally.

Training

Ibizan Hound dogs are very trainable. They also are dogs that can get easily bored. So training must be done in brief sessions but in a manner that is firm and confident.

Health

The Ibizan Hound is a robust and healthy dog breed. Drug-related medical problems can affect these hounds and may show minor to severe types of allergies. Seizures are not common to this hound breed but some lines do show this medical condition. There are lines of Ibizan Hounds that also get affected by axonal dystrophy as well as nerve and muscle health issues.

Exercise

This breed will require a good deal of physical exercise. It has to have at the minimum two or three long walks each day to be able to fulfill their migration impulse.
