History

The Serbian Tricolour Hound is considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds that have been in existence for several centuries. This is a breed that originated within the Balkan regions that covers much of the modern-day Serbian Republic.

They were originally used as scent hounds that hunt in a manner that is known as “running hound” hunting. This is when hound dogs are free-running and without a leash while going after prey. This Serbian hound breed was impressive in hunting pigs that have become feral and wild boars. They were also used as hare and fox hunters. Ironically, even though this breed was named after the Yugoslavian nation, the Serbian Tricolour Hound is only popular in its native country and hardly used even in the areas that covered the nation it was named after.

Personality

The Serbian Tricolour Hound is one of the most devoted hound dogs known. They will obey and love their masters without question and will display tremendous loyalty by standing beside them until the last second of their life. They are tenacious hunting dogs and very dependable as hunting companions.
