Siberian Husky dogs or Siberian Huskies are one of the breeds that were used by the United States Armed Forces during World War II!

History

The Siberian Husky is a dog breed believed to have originated 3,000 years ago in the region that is now known as Siberia. They were bred and developed by the Chukchi Indian tribe and were primarily used as sled dogs for cats that carry small loads. This Nordic dog breed maintained its pure breeding lines up until the 20th century when they were imported to Alaska and bred as sled racing dogs. Late on, Siberian Huskies were replaced as the preferred sled racing breed by their closely related cousins that Alaskan Husky. Since then, Siberian Huskies were used as recreational sledding dogs and as companion pets.

Personality

Siberian Husky is a dog that will show friendliness and its outgoing nature towards everyone they meet. These Northern dogs are active, lively and are known to roam. Their strong instinct to roam makes them the consummate escape artists, digging tunnels, escaping pens and even leaping over fences. Siberian Huskies are independent-minded yet very dependable when the situation calls it.

Bred For

Siberian Husky dogs were originally bred to pull sleds, herd reindeers and also serve as watchdogs Today they are also bred for sledding trials, carting competitions and sled dog racing.

Environment

Siberian Huskies are not ideal apartment pets. These Northern dogs are not also suitable for city living conditions. They can live as apartment pets and can do well in the city provided that they are given sufficient exercise and are well trained.

Grooming

Siberian Husky is easy to groom during the non-shedding season. Shedding season happens twice a year for these dogs and during those times they require constant and regular grooming attention.

Training

Siberian Huskies can be properly well trained but should be trained with a firm and consistent method.

Health

Siberian Huskies are known to be at high risks on developing or acquiring various eye issues including PRA which are very common for male Huskies, juvenile cataracts, crystalline corneal opacities and corneal dystrophy. They are also prone to have a displacement of the urethra known as ectopy. These dogs are also very prone to hip dysplasia and a skin problem known as zinc responsive dermatitis.

Exercise

Siberian Huskies require a moderate amount of exercise such as taking them walking or running every day. When kept as pets in warm climates, their exercise time should be lessened to avoid injuries or health problems that may occur.
