Introduction

The Silky Terrier dog breed is one courageous, very alert and a very spunky terrier in a small package! Although known to be called as the Australian Silky Terrier or the Sydney Terrier, this dog breed did not originate in Australia. The Silky Terrier was first bred in Scotland.

History

The Silky Terrier was developed from the crossing of native Australian Terriers with the Yorkshire Terrier breed. This was done during the later parts of the 1800s when Yorkies were brought to the Australian continent. The Silky Terriers is one of two native terrier breed native to Australia and is popularly bred to be companion dogs.

Personality

The Silky Terrier is a keen and friendly dog that is known to be very lively. These dogs require a great deal of attention and human interaction.

The Silky Terriers are good apartment pets.

Grooming

Silky Terriers are very prone to hair tangles and matting. This makes them very high maintenance when it comes to grooming needs. These are dogs that shed hair in little amounts or none at all.
