History

Smooth-haired Ibizan Hound is very much like the Pharoah Hound of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The only difference is their size, with the smooth-haired Ibizan hound dog breed being the larger ones. Their origins can be traced as far back as 3400 B.C. Most believe that modern Ibizan hounds are just recreation of the ancient breed. More accurately, the smooth-haired Ibizan hound we known today can be traced in 900 BC, appearing in the Spanish coast and surrounding islands. At that time they were used as hunting dogs, providing food to their owners by effectively capturing small game type animals such as hares and rabbits. Today they have been developed as hunter retrievers and show impressive skills in lure coursing sports.

Smooth-haired Ibizan Hound dogs are perfect family pets for their very admirable traits including, loyalty, affection, playful and cheerful disposition. They will get along with everyone, including strangers. They mature at a slow pace. These enthusiastic dogs are not at all difficult to train and display adaptability in a variety of scenarios.
