Meet Leon!
Leon entered Orange County Animal Care as a stray. When he wasn't claimed and began to decline in the shelter environment, volunteers advocated for his rescue. We scooped him up on April 13th to become a Frosted Face. Leon is 13 years old, weighs 30 lbs., and is very sweet. Blind and deaf, he is a gentle old soul who is doesn't seek out attention but responds well when you get down on his level to interact. We are looking for a special family to give Leon the loving, safe, and comfortable home he deserves. Might it be you?
Soon after Leon arrived at FFF, he went to live in a Foster home for extra TLC. While there, he ate well, grew stronger, and his overall health improved. He went from being skittish to welcoming pets and cuddles. His foster family described Leon as a mellow, very easy dog to take care of who enjoys slow walks and naps in his bed. We learned that he circles when he needs to go outside to potty and is fine with other dogs, just not very interested in them!
Leon thrives in a home environment but is overwhelmed on-site with so many other dogs and activity. So, when his first foster family could no longer care for him due to frequent travel for work, we were thrilled when another foster family stepped up. We received a great update about how well Leon is doing:
"Leon has been with me eight weeks. I wanted him to rest in a quiet, warm home to get ready for his surgeries on both ears, and also to stay with me to recover.
He is now fully recovered, and he is ready for his forever home!
This is what I’ve learned about Leon:
Leon is a very quiet and mellow gentleman and the best things in life for him are a cozy blanket, three square meals a day, a water bowl filled to the brim. and a few cuddles here and there.
He also enjoys brief little walks in the sunshine.
Leon is both blind and deaf.
I understand this combo may seem daunting to some, but it doesn’t hold him back or keep him
from living his best life.
Leon is very low- maintenance.
He would make a great companion for some who is retired or works from home, but even if you don’t, Leon is perfectly fine to wait for you until you get back. He doesn't have any separation anxiety. I can leave him at home all day, and he’s just fine.
Leon gets along with my dog, and he doesn't chase my cat. He
rides well in the car, and I just have him buckled in, so he doesn’t fall down onto the floorboards. Leon is a very good eater and not picky at all. He is not interested in toys, but he does like a good snuffle mat or a dog puzzle with savory treats hidden inside for him to find. He has a great snoot!
Leon does let me know in his own way that he needs to go out by spinning around in one place for about 10 to 12 rounds.
He will go potty outside if I take him out every 3 to 4 hours, or right after he wakes up from a good nap. I put on a belly band at night as a precaution. He sleeps soundly through the night.
Leon would also make a very good cuddle buddy, for another dog of senior years. He would bring a lot of peace and calm to another animal.
I can see them napping together, and keeping each other warm."
