More about the shelter
SPCA PETS SNAP of Montgomery County believes passionately in a community where animals are valued, treated with respect and kindness and provided with a secure and loving quality of life. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit all volunteer based organization that serve the citizens and animals of Montgomery County. To accomplish our mission we will...
· Rescue and rehabilitate homeless animals providing a safe haven for the animals until a suitable adoptive home is found or until they are reunited with their owner through our "Save More Lives" program.
· Through our "Humane Education and Public Awareness" program further the cause of responsible animal ownership, the great need to reduce the pet population by spaying or neutering their pets and encourage a stronger bond between people and their pets.
· Provide a limited number of low-cost spay/neuter services for the people unable to afford to spay or neuter their pets otherwise through our "Last Litter" program.
We are not an open admissions organization and we have a "no-kill policy for healthy, treatable and adoptable animals.
VISION
We understand that fulfilling our vision will mean a partnership with the entire community and all of our stakeholders.
We envision a county where each companion animal finds a permanent and compassionate home, where communities are enriched by the special bond between people and animals, where cruelty no longer exists and where each home practices responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering their pets. With this clear and unified understanding of our purpose, direction and path we set out our core values:
We are guided by the belief that no adoptable or treatable companion animal should be unnecessarily euthanized due to space, time, looks or breed.
· STEWARDSHIP: We manage and allocate all our resources to remain steadfast to our mission, to achieve the greatest good, and to ensure the future of our organization.
· QUALITY CARE: Our actions and decisions are based on providing the best medical care and services to the most animals. We respect the life of each individual animal, while focusing on the welfare of volunteers, community, and the animal population as a whole.
· COMMUNITY-FOCUSED: We enrich the community we serve by placing safe, healthy companion animals in responsible, loving homes.
· RESPECT: We treat all persons and animals with dignity and respect in a non-judgmental manner. The general public, our clients, donors, volunteers, business partners, suppliers and board members are all viewed as our partners in improving animal welfare and in fulfilling our Mission.
· INTEGRITY: We interact with each other and the communities we serve in a way that is respectful, fully transparent and ethical.
· INNOVATION: We develop, implement and share new ideas, creative solutions and leading nonprofit practices.

About Fred
Distance: 1,463 Miles
Introducing Fred, a handsome and playful Whippet mix who loves to play and cuddle with everyone! He loves to go for rides in the car and on walks. Fred has easily learned basic commands and clearly wants to please his people. He is treat motivated and will work hard for his treats! Now all he needs is a home to call his own where he will be loved and cared for. We think that Fred could be considered house trained with free access to a doggie door, but he has had challenges coordinating effective "signals" with people when he needs to go out. It's not that he doesn't have plenty of smarts--take a look at the video of Fred with the treat puzzle he worked out in record K9 time!
Even though Fred is a mix he does exhibit many of the characteristics of the Whippet and some are shown below: The sleek, sweet-faced Whippet, the 'Poor Man's Racehorse’ is lightning quick. He is an amiable, dignified, and gentle soul, but give him something to chase and he's all business. The name Whippet is synonymous with streamlined grace. At somewhere between 18 and 22 inches at the shoulder, the Whippet looks like a Greyhound, but smaller. The Whippet exhibits the classic 'inverted S' lines of the sighthound. The deep chest and trim waist; a lean head supported by a long, arched neck; and slim but sturdy legs combine in a picture of an agile, fleet-footed athlete. Between bursts of intense pursuit, Whippets love to stretch out and relax for long hours, enjoying the role of a loving and loved companion. Whippets like a fenced yard to run in and Fred will need one for sure. Just like pure breed Whippets Fred will also need daily mental stimulation to keep him happy and content. He would enjoy agility training and be great at it. Despite the breed's elegant looks, the Whippet is a robust, low-maintenance dog.
Fred has already been neutered and is current on his vaccinations, worming, heartworm prevention and flea control. His $125 adoption fee also includes a LIFETIME microchip registration with 24hourpetwatch. If you think he may be the right K9 companion for you please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online application (no cost or obligation). Once approved we'll gladly set up a time for you to meet Fred in person to see if it's a good match. Thank you for thinking Rescue.
