More about the shelter
Aid in the rescue of abandoned or stray animals in need of temporary shelter or safe haven.
Aid in the care and medical needs of said animals while under the care of the corporation.
Aid in finding suitable homes and responsible owners to give such animals a forever loving home.
1. Application -
An adoption application is required, providing information about your family, as well as past and
current pets.
2. Vet check -
You give us permission to contact your veterinarian regarding current and/ or past pets. You must
have good vet records, showing that you are a responsible pet owner.
3. Home visit -
A home visit will be scheduled. To adopt a dog, you must have a fenced area. We will check it to
make sure there are no escape routes. We will not leave a dog with you unless problem areas are
fixed.
4. Trial run -
There will be a minimum of a one week trial at your home, to make sure that the pet you have
chosen is a good match with your family. If the pet does not work, for whatever reason, we will take
the pet back.
5. Adoption finalization -
When you are convinced that the pet you have chosen is a good match with your family, the
Adoption can be finalized. An adoption contract is signed. You must promise to be a responsible and
loving pet owner for the entire life of your pet.
6. Adoption fee -
Dogs - $150 adoption fee / Cats - $100, which helps cover the cost of vetting. All our Rescues are
completely vetted: all shots up-to-date, spayed / neutered and parasite free. (Dogs) will be micro
chipped, heart worm negative and currently taking a heart worm preventative. (Cats) tested for FIV
and FELV.
About Duke
Distance: 1,480 Miles
Duke wandered up to a Texaco truck stop terminal in downtown Houston. He had significant bite wounds on the left side and the top of his neck. It looked like perhaps a big dog had grabbed him. He was not wearing a collar and ID tag and he did not have a microchip. Duke came to Emmy's Hope Rescue in June 2020.
Duke is sweet, happy-go-lucky and affectionate with people he knows. He is very hesitant and untrusting of dogs he doesn’t know. He prefers small, female dogs and tends to get defensive with males, particularly if they are big. After he warms up, and feels comfortable, he's ready to run and play. Duke is very curious and has a high energy level.
Duke does best with a familiar daily routine, so he knows what to expect. He needs a family that’s experienced with nervous, energetic dogs.
Estimated birth date: June 2019
Approximate weight: 11 lbs.
If you would like to meet Duke, please call or text Stephanie at: 281-622-6549.
