More about the shelter
Canine Adoption and Rescue League is an IRC 501(c) (3) Private Non-Profit No-Kill Organization. Project Second Chance is dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of orphaned dogs and puppies. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our dogs.
1. Before making your selection, please consider the following. https://www.pawsandlearn.org/contact After reading, select a dog that interests you and fits your lifestyle. For puppies under 11 months old, children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
2. Everyone in the household needs to spend some time interacting with the dog. If you already have a dog in your household, please bring your dog over to meet the dog you’ve selected. All dogs and people in the home must meet the dog you’ve selected.
3. Fill out an adoption application form (note: filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption).
4. An Adoption Counselor will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will be contacted to submit pictures/videos to confirm that the fencing and gates are secure, and the yard is safe for the dog.
5. No dog is ever adopted from the program without a home check.
6. If more than one application is submitted for a given dog, our adoption committee will select the home that is best suited for the dog’s needs.
7. The entire adoption process can take up to one week.
8. The adoption process is concluded when an Adoption Contract is completed and the non-refundable adoption fee is paid.
9. Our non-refundable adoption fees per dog are:
$300 for puppies up to 6 months old
$250 for puppies over 6 months old and under 1 yr old
$225 for dogs 1 yr old and under 8 yrs old
$175 for senior dogs 8 yrs old and up
If you can increase the adoption fee for the dog you are adopting, please do so. Any amount over the adoption fee is tax-deductible. If you cannot, please remember us during the holiday gift giving season and for donations of dog toys, dog beds, blankets and other items all rescue groups need. But most importantly PLEASE remember to tell your friends who FALL IN LOVE with your dog (because they will) to ADOPT, don't breed or buy.
About Paca
Distance: 1,485 Miles
Breed: Chow DOB: 9/2016 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: long Size: medium Color(s): red/blond Description: Hi, I'm Paca, a shy, sweet Chow that was rescued after my owner passed away. My house sold quickly and was gated up. It's unknown if I escaped and couldn't be caught or someone turned me loose to fend for myself. Either way I was out on my own for two months in very hot weather. Thankfully someone down the street noticed me on my own and started giving me food/water daily. But even with her kindness, I wouldn't let anyone get too close to me. With the help of many people I was caught and now I'm waiting for my special someone to make me a part of their family. After being scared and on my own, my fur became matted and I needed to be shaved. As you can see my beautiful fur is already growing back.
CARL volunteers are working on getting to know my likes/dislikes and helping me with leash training. I'm slowly learning to trust and come out of my shell. I love to be scratched on the head. I'm happy to explore my new world when I go out for my regular walking route. I have not been reactive to other dogs. I'm shy of strangers. A huge heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful people who helped rescue me and who donated towards my care. If you're interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application to meet me.
