More about the shelter
Canine Adoption and Rescue League is an IRC 501(c) (3) Private Non-Profit No-Kill Organization. Project Second Chance is dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of orphaned dogs and puppies. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our dogs.
1. Before making your selection, please consider the following. https://www.pawsandlearn.org/contact After reading, select a dog that interests you and fits your lifestyle. For puppies under 11 months old, children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
2. Everyone in the household needs to spend some time interacting with the dog. If you already have a dog in your household, please bring your dog over to meet the dog you’ve selected. All dogs and people in the home must meet the dog you’ve selected.
3. Fill out an adoption application form (note: filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption).
4. An Adoption Counselor will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will be contacted to submit pictures/videos to confirm that the fencing and gates are secure, and the yard is safe for the dog.
5. No dog is ever adopted from the program without a home check.
6. If more than one application is submitted for a given dog, our adoption committee will select the home that is best suited for the dog’s needs.
7. The entire adoption process can take up to one week.
8. The adoption process is concluded when an Adoption Contract is completed and the non-refundable adoption fee is paid.
9. Our non-refundable adoption fees per dog are:
$300 for puppies up to 6 months old
$250 for puppies over 6 months old and under 1 yr old
$225 for dogs 1 yr old and under 8 yrs old
$175 for senior dogs 8 yrs old and up
If you can increase the adoption fee for the dog you are adopting, please do so. Any amount over the adoption fee is tax-deductible. If you cannot, please remember us during the holiday gift giving season and for donations of dog toys, dog beds, blankets and other items all rescue groups need. But most importantly PLEASE remember to tell your friends who FALL IN LOVE with your dog (because they will) to ADOPT, don't breed or buy.
About Nellie
Distance: 1,485 Miles
Breed: Chow DOB: 7/9/2022 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: long Size: medium Color(s): black Description: Hi, I'm Nellie, an affectionate and loving Chow that loves to play with my 3 foster siblings. I still have my sassy Chow moments, but I am eager to learn and continue to grow into the amazing dog I am today. I came to CARL as a very fearful and not socialized puppy, but my foster family took the time to gain my trust and teach me new things, which has allowed me to flourish and become more sociable and outgoing, but I still am slightly nervous and reserved with new people. I will still definitely need continued socialization and structure/consistency to ensure I maintain my confidence and overcome my shyness and nervousness. The more I learn and trust, the less nervous I am. I am currently living with 3 other dogs, and we get along. I am definitely looking to be the alpha, which doesn't always agree with other alphas in the house. I am both crate trained at night and potty trained. I LOVE long walks and I've been doing good with a gentle leader, but I still have some room for improvement on my walks. My foster mom has been working with me and I'm improving daily. I am a little reserved with introductions to strangers, so it might take a little bit before I feel comfortable to come up to you. Please go slow and take your time when coming up to me. Once I get to know you, I become a loving girl who wants to play with my toys, roll around being silly and chase lizards, but I also love to curl up on the couch or be right at your feet, just as long as I'm close by. If you're ready and able to give me a lifetime of love and wonderful memories, please fill out an application to meet me.
