More about the shelter
Canine Adoption and Rescue League is an IRC 501(c) (3) Private Non-Profit No-Kill Organization. Project Second Chance is dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of orphaned dogs and puppies. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our dogs.
1. Before making your selection, please consider the following. https://www.pawsandlearn.org/contact After reading, select a dog that interests you and fits your lifestyle. For puppies under 11 months old, children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
2. Everyone in the household needs to spend some time interacting with the dog. If you already have a dog in your household, please bring your dog over to meet the dog you’ve selected. All dogs and people in the home must meet the dog you’ve selected.
3. Fill out an adoption application form (note: filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption).
4. An Adoption Counselor will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will be contacted to submit pictures/videos to confirm that the fencing and gates are secure, and the yard is safe for the dog.
5. No dog is ever adopted from the program without a home check.
6. If more than one application is submitted for a given dog, our adoption committee will select the home that is best suited for the dog’s needs.
7. The entire adoption process can take up to one week.
8. The adoption process is concluded when an Adoption Contract is completed and the non-refundable adoption fee is paid.
9. Our non-refundable adoption fees per dog are:
$300 for puppies up to 6 months old
$250 for puppies over 6 months old and under 1 yr old
$225 for dogs 1 yr old and under 8 yrs old
$175 for senior dogs 8 yrs old and up
If you can increase the adoption fee for the dog you are adopting, please do so. Any amount over the adoption fee is tax-deductible. If you cannot, please remember us during the holiday gift giving season and for donations of dog toys, dog beds, blankets and other items all rescue groups need. But most importantly PLEASE remember to tell your friends who FALL IN LOVE with your dog (because they will) to ADOPT, don't breed or buy.

Breed: Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Chihuahua, Boxer, Great Dane, Pit Bull and Peruvian Inca Orchid X DOB: 8/2022 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: medium Color(s): black / red brown Description:***Needs a Foster Home***This dog is in need of a foster home as well as a permanent home. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application.Hi, I'm Sonora, a beautiful, joyful and entertaining Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Chihuahua, Boxer, Great Dane, Pit Bull and Peruvian Inca Orchid X, whew that was a mouthful, (dna test) who is in need of a forever home. I had a rough start in life and was found abandoned in the mountains in Sonora, Mexico (hence my name) with a head injury and very sick as a puppy. Some vacationing hikers found me and brought me back to the US to take care of me. I'm healthy now and ready for adoption.I'm not always the easiest dog to manage, but I've had formal training and a few foster families to help me learn how to behave in a home. I've learned a lot, but still have some learning to do. I'm very smart so I know I can continue to learn more.I love running around, cuddling and playing with other dogs. I'm very high energy, love to go on walks, but can be reactive to triggers when on leash. Another dog in the home would be great, but that dog would need to be able to handle my energy level. I need a yard to get my daily zoomies in.If I'm going to be left alone, I need to be confined in a dog proof area or in a crate. I'm not suited for apartment life. I can be shy with strangers at first, but I'm quick to fall in love with most people. Although I've been supervised around young children and did great with them, I tend to jump and play nip when excited so would do best in a dog experienced adult home.I might do ok with cats. A couple of the foster homes had cats and I ignored them or left them alone, but I was never unattended with them.If you're looking for an active great gal and can give me the structure and environment that I need to thrive, please put in an application to meet me. Minimum 6 foot fence.
