More about the shelter
HSWC is a 501c3 organization that holds a contract with Warren County to provide animal sheltering services. We are an open admission shelter and do not turn animals away due to medical or behavioral needs. We work diligently to save the lives of all the adoptable animals in our care. We also work with the community to help increase pet retention. We are a drop off location for transport to the local spay/neuter clinic.
Interested adopters must fill out an adoption application. We verify that current pets are UTD on Rabies vaccinations and spayed or neutered. If the applicants rent we verify with the landlord that they are approved to adopt a pet. Adopters must fill out an adoption contract and sterilization agreement if the pet is not already altered. Pets that are not altered can only be adopted out to residents of Warren County or a surrounding jurisdiction. The adoption fee for cats is $15 and the fee for dogs is $30. The adoption fee does not include the cost of spay or neuter. If the animal is not altered adopters are required to have the pet altered within 30 days of adoption or by the time it reaches 6 months old.
About Athena ~ Courtesy Post
Distance: 159 Miles
Athena is not at the the shelter. She is listed as a courtesy to her owner who needs to rehome her. Please contact Maggie (540-631-1395) for more information.
Meet Athena. 45lb, 2.5 year old Pittie baby, looking for her forever family. Removed from a neglectful situation, we have been fostering her for several months. Athena is eager to please and knows commands. I have also taught her to sing, when asked. Too cute!
Are you a hiker? Well Athena may just be the girl for you. I take her out on the trails and we have done 20+ miles in a single day. Ever aware and always protective of her hiking companion, this girl has the energy and the loyalty to make a great trail dog.
Not a hiker? No worries. Athena also loves to chew on antlers, peanut butter kongs, loves squeakers and play fetch. She is also the queen of snuggles. She prefers sleeping and cuddling with her person at night. Can't go wrong with this little girl for a cuddle buddy.
We were told she gets along with other dogs. But the four dogs we have now don't get along with her. So, she is kept separate. She would be best with a solo companion or someone with experience with this breed.
We do not know how she is with kids.
She has all of her shots. We were told that she wasn't fixed, however, we have had her for almost a year and she hasn't gone into heat.
This little girl needs a stable and lasting home. We are determined to find her the perfect family, so she never has to go through neglect or abandonment again. We want her to be adored.
If interested, we would love to set up a meet and greet......call Maggie at 540-631-1395
