More about the shelter
PURRS of HOPE Rescue, Inc, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization located in Hammond, Louisiana. We depend on and are completely funded by donations and operate as an all-volunteer organization. All donations are tax deductible.
We are dedicated to rescuing our feline friends. There are hundreds of stray, feral and abandoned cats in our community that need our help and to be their voice.
Mission: To rescue and save homeless cats / kittens that have become strays or unwanted by no choice of their own. We also pull cats from high kill shelters. We provide them with vet care, to improve their health and give them the quality of life and love they deserve; while being fostered until adopted out to their Fur-ever homes.
We are a no-kill organization. Once a pet comes into our foster care it will remain there until adopted or appropriate long term foster is found. All cats/kittens are spayed / neutered, combo tested for feline leukemia/feline aids virus, given age appropriate vaccinations, wormed, and flea treated.
We welcome and encourage volunteers to help with fostering, transporting and care of the cats.
We are here to educating the public on the importance to spay and neuter their animals. We partner with other local non-profit organizations to reach our mission to sterilize cats / kittens by assisting the public and transporting their cats/kittens to low cost spay neuter clinics. Our goal is to make a great impact on the over population of cats in our surrounding area.
We also participate in TNR of feral cats in our community. TNR humanely manages feral and free roaming cats, while preventing the cats from breeding. They are humanely trapped, spayed/ neutered and vaccinated, then released back to their home or relocated if necessary to reduce their numbers and improve their quality of life.
Our adoption fee is $70.00 which includes: spay / neuter, combo test for Feline Leukemia / FIV, up-to-date on required vaccinations, wormed and flea treated.
Our adoption process starts with a simple application to be filled out that helps us screen for long-term homes and ensure the cat/kitten is a good fit for your family. Our application can be emailed or downloaded from our web-site. Once we receive the application it will be reviewed and someone from our organization will contact you within 24 to 48 hours.
We do have a policy that DOES NOT allow De-clawing.
Once an application is reviewed and references called, we arrange a meet and greet with the potential adopter. If we approve the adoption, the adopter signs an agreement.
