More about the shelter
Cumberland County Animal Shelter houses approximately 2000 animals every year. They have a small staff of a shelter Director and two full-time employees with the rest of the staff made up of part-timers who come and go. As a private, retired citizen, The shelter director has authorized me to go into the shelter five days a week to photograph animals to post at online adoption sites. I add, edit and then delete animals when they have been adopted or are no longer available. Because they do not have a large enough staff to handle this type of work, I am able to do it for the shelter, mostly from my home, as a free service.
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
About ACKLEY (Neutered!)
Distance: 1,816 Miles
If you want to see a face that makes you feel glad to come home when you open that door, here is your boy! Yep, this affectionate dog also ended up at the shelter because his owner died and no other arrangements had been made for his care. While it doesn’t happen every day, it does remind all of us to make those arrangements for our loved pets NOW, while there is still time. ACKLEY is listed as a six-year-old, 29-pound male Mountain Cur. He has a beautiful blue and white coat. The other dog that he came in with has been adopted. And, the shelter staff arranged for his neuter, which was done on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. As a result, he can go home the same day that he is adopted! Serious adopters are encouraged to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared! That includes taking a dog collar and a leash with you to the adoption appointment in case you do decide to adopt him. Even better, take a dog crate with you to that appointment. No animal should be allowed to run freely in any vehicle. Especially an animal that you have just adopted! Safety first!
