More about the shelter
Cumberland County Animal Shelter houses approximately 2000 animals every year. They have a small staff of a shelter Director and two full-time employees with the rest of the staff made up of part-timers who come and go. As a private, retired citizen, The shelter director has authorized me to go into the shelter five days a week to photograph animals to post at online adoption sites. I add, edit and then delete animals when they have been adopted or are no longer available. Because they do not have a large enough staff to handle this type of work, I am able to do it for the shelter, mostly from my home, as a free service.
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
About DELILAH
Distance: 1,816 Miles
DELILAH is one of nine puppies that arrived at the shelter together in mid March 2024. They were listed as 6 to 7 weeks of age at that time. Only DELILAH and her brother SAMPSON remain. She is friendly and sweet, but is not yet leash trained although she is nearly an adult. However, the shelter Director took her out to a fenced play yard in January 2025 to give her some one-on-one attention to assess DELILAH’s ongoing adoptability status. DELILAH was so affectionate and playful and rolled over at the director’s feet in her joy to be outside on a lawn for the first time in her young life. She especially enjoyed the multiple treats she was given as she ran and played, and then came back to the director’s feet. As a result, staff is taking her to the front office counter to spend more time with them and help with her socialization. For the record, DELILAH seriously loves belly rubs! She has not yet been spayed though, and that must be done before she can go home with you as your own. Serious adopters are encouraged to CALL shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared!
