More about the shelter
The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County and help them find loving homes. We offer low-cost spay and neuter to any cat or dog in the County and we a have a progressive trap - neuter or spay -and return (TNR) program and we monitor and feed several community cat colonies every day. We are 100% funded by private donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a city or county-run shelter. We are all our county has for help with homeless cats and dogs. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.
Our adoption process starts with an interview. We want to know what type of cat or dog they are looking for, their lifestyle, and their expectations. Then we set up a meet and greet either at the shelter, a pet store, or at their home. Then they fill out an adoption contract. We offer and encourage potential adopters to take the dog or cat home on foster-to-adopt for a few weeks before finalizing the adoption. Our adoption fee is $65 for cats and $125 for dogs which included spay or neuter and vaccinations and for dogs, it includes a microchip. Cats can be microchipped upon request.
About Dobby
Distance: 2,138 Miles
This smart pup is Dobby and he is always ready for adventure. He is a graduate from the Leash on Life Prison Pup Program which means he passed requirements for socialization and the Canine Good Citizen training which includes coming when called and walking on a loose lead. Dobby enjoys training and his handler has taught him to High 5 with both paws. Dobby likes lots of mental stimulation and is friendly with strangers. He also likes to go on walks and enjoys being able to sniff. His handler describes him as obedient, very energetic, intelligent, loving, and loyal. He says he can appear standoffish, but at bedtime, will snuggle up right next to you. Dobby needs a fenced in yard to give him space to run and keep him safely at home as well as giving him a spot to sunbathe. He does well with the other dogs at the prison and would probably be fine around older kids, but would not be good around cats. He is housetrained from being in the prison and is used to plenty of exercise. Dobby is likely a Plott Hound mix and is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. He weighs 70 lbs and is full grown with a birth date of 12/31/17. Dobby is looking for a forever buddy that would reinforce his training and enjoys the outdoors.
