More about the shelter
Nirvana Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization committed to providing sanctuary to homeless, neglected, and abused animals. We rescue companion animals who are left behind, forgotten, neglected, thrown away, or abused and provide them with their own nirvana, free from suffering and pain. All our animals are behaviorally assessed and many receive professional training prior to being placed in their forever homes. Our emphasis is on the quality, not quantity, of animals placed to ensure successful, lifelong adoptions.
Nirvana Animal Rescue was founded to ensure no animal is left behind. All animals, regardless of age, size, medical or behavioral need are welcome to find their own slice of heaven at Nirvana Animal Rescue.
The number of animals who are adopted, rather than bred and bought, is increasing, while the number of adoptable pets who are euthanized in shelters is decreasing. Unfortunately, these statistics leave out the animals who are being left behind - the seniors, animals with medical needs, and animals with behavioral considerations.
These animals are the focus of Nirvana Animal Rescue. The animals who are left behind, forgotten, neglected, thrown away, and abused are allowed to experience their own nirvana, free from suffering and pain, at the rescue.
1. Submission of online application.
2. Volunteer review of your application, including a background check on all adults living in the home, checking personal references, contacting your landlord if you rent, and contacting your veterinarian if you have current pets.
3. Virtual call with a volunteer to discuss the answers on your online application, share more information about Nirvana Animal Rescue, conduct a virtual home visit, and answer any questions you have.

Update 9/9
: Zainab has come a long way since she was rescued off the chain in January! She has received treatment for heartworms and spayed and is ready to join a forever family! Zainab is a super loyal girl who bonds strongly with her people and pack. She prefers to be the star of the show and not share her people’s attention with other animals in the home, and after everything she’s been through, who can blame her? Fortunately, she’s not reactive to seeing other dogs on leash and can walk by them without much excitement. She is crate and house trained and knows how to “sit” for a treat, too! She’s playful but not super energetic and could join you on hikes, or spend a lazy day on the couch. She’s such a lovable girl who deserves the absolute best forever home!
Mama Zainab was found living on a chain in South Carolina, nursing five babies off her emaciated body. One puppy unfortunately didn't make it, but we were able to save the remaining four puppies and placed them into foster care. Zainab is now also safe with us in foster care and looking for her own forever home!
Zainab is around 4 years old and weighs 55 lbs. She is a sweet and gentle girl who clearly has never lived inside a home before. She was perplexed by the television in her foster home and walked right into the sliding glass doors. She is learning just how nice indoor living is and picks up quickly! She walks nicely on leash without pulling and loves meeting new people.
Zainab injured her eye while living on the chain, and her former owner never pursued medical treatment. She was seen by our ophthalmologist, who advised that while she is totally blind in one eye, it causes her no pain or discomfort, so no treatment is needed! She is heartworm positive and will receive treatment with the rescue.
After everything she's been through, Mama Z deserves to find a perfect forever home, and we are committed to finding one for her!
To adopt Zainab, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application
Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our animals. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.
