More about the shelter
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

ELLIE MAY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Ellie May Best Guess for Breed: Sheep Dog/Wire Haired Terrier
Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of Nov 2024 Gender: female
Approximate Weight: 62 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids yet, but she can be tested.
Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus. She needs a foster or adopter to secure her freedom ride to the DC area.
Special Adoption Considerations: Ellie May is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
About Ellie May: Ellie May is a beautiful, 5-year-old pup with a heart full of love and a mind full of potential! We believe she’s a mix of Sheepdog and Wire-Haired Terrier, which means that Ellie May is not only adorable, but she’s also incredibly smart. She's the type of dog who thrives on mental stimulation and would absolutely excel in obedience or trick training. Whether it's learning a new command or mastering a fun trick, Ellie May is always up for the challenge!
This sweet girl is great with other dogs, so she’d fit perfectly into a home with other furry friends. She loves meeting new people and would be overjoyed to be part of a family that enjoys outdoor adventures. Ellie May’s ideal days include long hikes, beach trips, and even family vacations – she’s an explorer at heart. After a fun day of adventure, though, Ellie May is all about relaxation. She’ll happily curl up with you on the couch for some well-deserved cuddle time.
Ellie May is looking for a family or individual who can provide her with love, structure, and plenty of opportunities to play and explore. She’ll be your loyal companion, ready to take on any adventure and snuggle up when the day is done.
