More about the shelter
We are a small rescue specializing in herding breeds. We pull dogs from the Southeastern United States, predominantly Florida, that are on death row and literally have just hours. We take dogs of all ages and do not turn down dogs that are ill or heartworm positive. I rescued a border collie 3 years ago from a shelter, and that led to the discovery that there were many in shelters. I have property to keep dogs on and wanted to help them, so here we are today. We have a network of fosters. The dogs receive basic training, house manners, leash training, crate training, are housebroken, and vetted. We try very carefully to match dogs with people to diminish returns, and we do indeed have few returns.
Initial contact via email or phone, application to adopt must be filled out, references, especially vet refs and home checks, are done. Initial meet and greet, interview is set up. If all goes well, the dog is adopted at a set date. We do extensive education re care and integration of the dog, any current quirks or issues are discussed, feeding schedule, etc. Adopters are encouraged to call with questions and stay in contact.
About Brownie
Distance: 2,547 Miles
Meet Brownie - he's about as sweet as his name implies! Sometimes he'll give you a quirky smile showing all his teeth, which is a guaranteed laugh.
He is a mini-Aussie with really short legs, but don't let his shortness fool you. He can slinky his body and stand tall on two feet. He's a very loyal dog and wants to please his people. Brownie likes both female & male humans, but seems to attach to the ladies in his life the most.
He is potty trained and does well when foster mom takes him outside. He does come when being called (though sometimes he has selective hearing if there's something better to investigate). He likes to sleep under the kitchen table, so he now has a bed there.
Brownie is very friendly and submissive when you come up to pet him, but outgoing as well. He comes to humans for love and affection. He does like to give kisses, and he'll snuggle up with you, if you let him. He seems to enjoy having other dogs around and seems to have picked out his favorite friends.
He can be a little protective over his humans if another dog is growling (playfully), not sure he understands they're playing. He is also protective over bones, so we'll keep those up for now. Brownie is a good boy, and oh-so-cute, but will need to work on leash training and some regular commands.
Brownie is currently being fostered in Okeechobee, FL and will be undergoing heartworm treatment. Think you can be Brownie's always and forever? Apply today!
