More about the shelter
Jeanne Lou and Dot Terry have been rescuing dogs for several years. We decided to form a non-profit rescue so that we could fundraise to support our mission. Dot's mission is to provide a permanent home at Dot's Old Dogs Home for large-breed senior dogs whose owners have died or gone into a nursing home. These dogs do not do well in shelters, and will not get adopted. At our sanctuary, these dogs have a promise of a forever home, but are also promoted for adoption because there's nothing better than your very own human. Jeanne Lou's mission is to rescue chained/penned and yard-sale dogs. A lot of these dogs tend to be the smaller breeds, thus the name, Little Big Dog, because we rescue the little ones and the big ones. Jeanne Lou's rescues are placed in foster homes, vetted, s/n'd, socialized, and offered for adoption.
Adoption application; references checked; home visit done. The adoption fee is $200. We have an adoption contract which enumerates our requirements for the animal to be a family pet, and that the animal be returned to our rescue if the adopter cannot keep the dog. We require dogs to be family pets, living indoors.
About Honey
Distance: 272 Miles
Honey is a feral dog. We are not sure of her exact age, whether seven, ten or older. She lives on a fenced property and prefers sleeping outside except when there is weather, in which case she comes into the house through the doggy door and waits for the storm to pass. Honey loves dogs and lives with at least 14 other dogs who are residents of our senior sanctuary. Honey watches over all the dogs, and inspects every new dog who enters the pack. She has never had a problem with another dog. Honey is happy and healthy. She is very playful and dances for her meals. She playbows with the dogs and loves to run and jump with them. She does not want close contact with humans unless you have a piece of raw meat in your hand, then she will come right up to you and gently take the meat from your hand. Honey has no grooming needs because she will not allow you to get near her. She gets her flea/tick and heartworm preventative in pills in her food.
