More about the shelter
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is a limited-admission humane society and provides services to over 40,000 cats, dogs, puppies and kittens each year. Operating continuously since 1925, we have been positively impacting animal welfare and addressing overpopulation in Palm Beach County through a variety of services.
Our Vision is to create a community where 100% of the adoptable animals find loving homes and no animals will be euthanized because of pet overpopulation.
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Humane Society of the Palm Beaches, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and does not receive funding from city, county, state, or the federal government, or local organizations with similar names. We rely solely on the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporations to provide quality programs and services to the community. Your donations directly support the services and programs in place to help animals in need.
The Mission of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches, Incorporated is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted animals, to provide spay and neuter and other medical services for companion animals, and to care for, protect, and find quality homes for homeless and neglected companion animals, to advocate animal welfare, community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals.
ADOPTION PROCESS:
When you arrive at our shelter, we suggest you visit our Dog & Cat Adoption Rooms. Once you see a pet you might be interested in adopting, remember that pet's name and come to the main lobby in the Grace Pavilion. We can help you find the pet that best fits your lifestyle.
Once you meet with an Adoption Coordinator, they will bring the pet to meet you and to see if it's a match. You can then spend time with the pet and learn much more about bringing the pet into your home. Feel free to ask for recommendations. Don’t forget, we work with our pets every day and may know the perfect one for you.
Weekends are very busy. Please be patient, we want to make sure we find the perfect pet for you.
We recommend you bring your children to visit with the pets you are interested in. We may also schedule a dog visit to bring your family dog if you are looking for an additional dog. Please set up an appointment with an Adoption Coordinator for the dog meet. We do not recommend cat-dog visits or cat-cat visits. All dogs who visit our shelter must be on a leash and be up to date on all vaccinations.
Adoption is a lifetime commitment including the training, emotional commitment and future medical care. Our most successful adoptions are to visitors who take their time in finding an appropriate companion. Every day, new pets are received at the League and made available for adoption, so if you don’t find an ideal companion pet immediately, keep visiting.
Please remember once you adopt we are here to support you. If you have questions, concerns or need assistance you can call our behavior help line at 472-8815 or email us.
ADOPTION FEES:
We allow of our adopters to name their own adoption fee, however we do rely solely on the generous donations we receive to provide quality programs and services to the community. On average, we spend approximately $300 on each animal to prepare them for adoption. Your adoption donation helps support animals in need.

Woof, woof! I'm so excited you're thinking about adopting a new fur-ever family member! Here are a few things that may help you with your big decision. First, dogs just want to be happy and feel loved. Living inside and being a part of the family is really important to us. A lot of the things you need as humans to stay happy and healthy, us dogs need too. We depend on you for things like vet visits, nutritious food, clean water, social and play time with people and other pets, training classes, toys, and of course, lots of love and attention! Regular baths, nail trims and grooming help us to look and feel our best, while monthly flea and heartworm prevention help us to stay healthy. Did you know that depending on our size and breed, dogs can live up to 20 years? Just think of the wonderful life we could have together!
