More about the shelter
New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

About Bilbo (FL)
Distance: 2,804 Miles
When it comes to rat terrier charm, handsome Bilbo is the full package! This sociable fellow likes people and will greet them eagerly, although sometimes his initial excitement does lead him to act as frisky and jumpy as a puppy rather than the dignified 9-year-old he actually is. Once he has ushered you into his home, Bilbo may show off how exceptionally bright he is by performing some of his wide repertoire of verbal commands, such as sit, lie down, high five, stay, leave it, heel, out, go to crate, and even play dead! He will bask in your admiration and gladly accept your appreciative belly rubs and bum scratches. He'll also happily chill beside you on the couch and look at you earnestly with his soulful eyes. Bilbo has lovely house manners and reliable house-training so you don't have to worry about him getting into mischief. He will eagerly engage you in a game of tug-of-war or fetch, but he also likes just being a snuggly 30-lb. couch-potato and he is calm when left alone at home. He walks wonderfully on leash, although when he meets other dogs out on walks, he tends to get overexcited and sometimes tries to show dominance. He will soon settle down if the other dog is confident and passive, but nevertheless it will be necessary to arrange an initial meet-and-greet in a neutral location if his potential family has other dogs. Bilbo does have one particular demand for his new home: that he be given plenty of space during his meal times. If he thinks that someone is too close to his food bowl, he will likely try to bite, and he is particularly uneasy around youngsters, so he would do best in a kid-free home. In a household that can manage that request, Bilbo will prove himself to be a fun-loving, well-adjusted bundle of joy...and your perfect companion!
