More about the shelter
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

About Trigger

TRIGGER NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Trigger Best Guess for Breed: Australian shepherd and Bernese Mountain Dog mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of November 2024 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 49 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested if you have them
Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment
Special Adoption Considerations: Trigger is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Trigger is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this fluffy sweetie ended up in the shelter. He's eagerly looking forward to once again having his own humans for long sniffy walks and romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up.
Trigger is an active boy who likes to rough house with other dogs. He's a "tag, you're it" kind of playmate. To keep Trigger happy, plan on giving him the opportunity to run each and every day.
Trigger has those soulful eyes that suck you in and he is such a huggable floof - he's got that solid presence. And he promises to always keep that solid presence right by your side - he wants nothing more than to be a loyal companion and know he's safe and loved in exchange. What do you say? Is he the one for your home and your heart?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster
