More about the shelter
The Calhoun County Humane Society, Inc. (dba The Animal Shelter), located in Anniston, Alabama, was established in 1973 as a result of the efforts of Susan Levens Phillips.
Our mission is
**To provide the pets in our care with a decent, safe and sanitary place;
**To prevent cruelty to animals;
**To stop suffering among animals mutilated or injured;
**To educate the public about the tremendous pet over-population facing the United States;
**To promote spaying and neutering to stop the senseless killing of animals;
**To place as many pets as possible in responsible homes.
Adoption fees are $90.00 for dogs and $80.00 for cats. This helps defray the medical and boarding costs. The adoption fee for dogs includes a full exam, vaccinations (DA2PLP+CV, Bordatella, Rabies) spaying/neutering, heartworm check, deworming, heartworm prevention, flea preventative, and in some cases, a skin scrape. The adoption fee for cats includes
a full exam (feleck/FIV tested, FVRCP), spaying/ neutering, rabies, deworming, and flea preventative.
If you wish to adopt a pet you will need to fill out an adoption application. You can either pick one up at the shelter or email the shelter to request an application be emailed to you.
About Candy
Distance: 988 Miles
Candy has a unique look - unless you count her nearly identical sisters! These distinctive girls have ears the better to hear you with and tails that act like rudders when they run - and they are built to run, athletic and active. Intelligent and sensitive, the girls are overwhelmed at the confusing shelter and need time to understand new situations. Having been abandoned and on their own, they are just cautious like that.
Candy is a bit more of a free thinker than her sisters. She knows what she wants, and while mostly she wants treats, she also wants some independence. She is the last one to learn "sit" (didn't wanna!), but does walk nicely on leash and crates up when asked. She is more ready to explore and do her thing. Still, she wants to enter into a fair relationship with new people who are respectful and looking for a partner, not a baby. She has struggled to make new dog friends at the shelter, mainly because of the environment - she has been fine in less stressful situations.
***Our pups don't tell us who their parents are - BREED is a GUESS***
