More about the shelter
The Almost Home Pet Adoption Center is a no-kill facility owned
and operated by the Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County. It
is located at the intersection of Rt. 29 North and Stagebridge
Road (Rt. 624) , just two miles north of Lovingston. Presently the
facility is open daily from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M.
The Adoption Center houses dogs and cats. The dogs are contained in individual rooms, one or two to a room, with wall murals painted by area artists and hemi-sync music from a sound system donated by the Monroe Institute. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in the rooms getting acquainted with the dogs and cats prior to adoption. Cats and kittens are housed in colorful cat condos with handcrafted furniture for climbing and perching.
Adoption fees cover the cost of vaccinations, worming, heartworm test or feline leukemia/aids test and spaying/neutering. All adult animals are provided these veterinary services prior to adoption. Kittens and puppies are adopted out with neutering certificates
covering the cost of these veterinary services at the appropriate age.
Many of the animals come from unclaimed or surrendered animals at the Nelson County Animal Control Facility.
These animals have been judged to be adoptable based on temperament and looks. The
Center does accept animals being surrendered by Nelson residents on a space available and
adoptability basis.
I am a volunteer. Among other things, I take photos of animals and post them on the internet for exposure to the public.

About Fanny
Distance: 212 Miles
UPDATE: NOV 11, 2019
Fanny, a DSH orange tabby, born in 2010, looks like she has dark eyeliner surrounding her beautiful eyes. She likes people to approach her slowly and preferably with an offering of food. If you do, Fanny will likely roll on her side and purr while you pet her. Please note: She especially enjoys ear rubs.
When Fanny spent some time in a foster home, she was happy to have her caregiver to brush and pet her non-stop and to hold her for short periods over her shoulder. Showing her fondness for other felines, she fell in love with one of the resident cats and took his lead in trusting human beings, so she’d probably be happiest in a home with another cat. She’d also be open to a polite, well-behaved dog.
She is trained to eat in a crate, which makes getting her to the vet much easier if necessary. She has some nasal issues which make her breathing a little noisy. She needs someone special who will love her, give her time to learn to trust and gradually reveal her best.
